Artist Liz Roberts Exhibits at Calabash Gallery Sunset River Marketplace

Abstract N.C. artist Liz Roberts has joined the roster of Sunset River Marketplace art gallery in Calabash, N.C., owner Ginny Lassiter announced recently. According to Roberts, her work is all about emotion and spontaneous expression, a meditative experience expressed through color and shape.

“This eclectic life I have lived, lends itself to big bold abstract art. With each painting, I ask God to paint through me,” the artist explains. “ I become present to the moment, to the only thing there ever is…the now. Wonderful things happen when the mind becomes still and quiet. Afterward, when people see the art, they always get a strong feeling. I only want them to wake up and feel something.”

The Sunset Beach resident has been painting and studying art locally and abroad for over 20 years. She is an avid student on internationally known watercolor and acrylic artist, Sterling Edwards. She has also studied under Ang Cheng Chye in Singapore.

Although adept at many mediums, her current favorite is acrylic on canvas, which she first discovered through Edwards during one of his popular Sunset River workshops. Roberts is active in Studio 12 and the Pastel Sisters, two dynamic painting groups at the gallery.

“I’m inspired daily by so many things,” Roberts says. “My world travels, certainly, interesting music, dance and coastal beauty.”

A longtime music lover, Roberts plays guitar and Irish whistle and is the percussionist for the Celtic quartet Gaelstorm. She also owns a real estate company with husband Tom.

“Liz brings so much energy to the galley,” Lassiter says. “People are drawn to her pieces as soon as they walk through the door. Each painting seems to embody her passion for life and commitment to the moment. We’re excited to show her work and introduce her to a new community of art lovers.”

Sunset River Marketplace is open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lassiter invites the public to visit the Liz Roberts collection and enjoy complementary gourmet coffee and tea as you stroll through the 10,000 square-foot space. Over 200 local and regional artists are represented here in virtually all art media.
