Cookbooks to Benefit Hospice Available at Sunset River Marketplace and Select Calabash Merchants
During a Creative Exchange event on Wednesday, Nov. 9, Sunset River Marketplace art gallery introduced their just-produced “Gallery Gals Appetizers!” cookbook, demonstrating three of the appetizers and offering a dozen of the cookbook’s recipes for sampling. Sixty-five people attended the presentation. Cookbook sales during the Creative Exchange were $1,100.
“This Creative Exchange was especially significant for us,” said creative consultant and gallery owner Ginny Lassiter, “because 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will go directly to the nonprofit Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter, right here in Brunswick County.”
Cynthia Cheatham, development manager for the “Closer to Home” capital campaign to build the hospice facility, was one of those attending the Creative Exchange. She spoke briefly about the need for the local seven-bed care center and the importance of supporting the fundraising efforts at every level, “Every single dollar is helping us reach our $3.5 million goal.”
The 52-page spiral-bound soft cover book features 47 recipes, many of which have been served at various Sunset River Marketplace charity events and receptions. Others were provided by exhibiting artists and friends of the gallery.
Among those recipes offered for sampling were the gallery’s signature Baked Brie With Apricot Preserves, Holiday Pinwheels, Stuffed Dates, Chicken (or Crab) Cheese Dip, Salmon Cakes, Blue -Walnut Wafers, Mississippi Caviar, Asparagus Rolls, Broccoli Raisin Salad, Artichoke Dip, The Guys’ Favorite and Glazed Pineapple Kielbasa Bites.
After sampling, attendees voted the Chicken Cheese Dip, which had been prepared by Betsy Russell, as their favorite.
Lassiter says, “’Gallery Gals Appetizers!” makes an ideal stocking stuffer or hostess gift, and I know I’ll be giving some as Christmas gifts. We’re really happy with the cookbook. And I’m especially grateful for the local sponsors who contributed toward it: Victoria’s Ragpatch, Calabash Garden Tea Room, Turtle Crossing Cupcakes, musicians Calabash Flash and Jim Quick & Coastline, artists Ramona Bendin and Babs Ludwick, Printing By Designs, Boom Boom’s Raw Bar, Icon Marketing, B. Russell Designs and – in the Lowcountry Shops – All About the Carolinas, the Yardbird Emporium and Bamboo Boutique.”
The cookbook sells for $15, with all proceeds going directly to Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter in Brunswick County. It is available in Calabash, N.C. at Sunset River Marketplace (910-575-5999), Victoria’s Ragpatch (910-579-2015), The Yardbird Emporium (910-575-5455), All About the Carolinas (910-575-4658) and Bamboo Boutique (910-579-8822).
