Scott Summerfield awarded Artist of the Month
10/01/10
Sunset River Marketplace announces award-winning glass artist Scott Summerfield as Artist of the Month in October 2010.  His unusual methods and distinctive style have drawn attention in the media and in prestigious juried art shows.  Scott's pieces resemble familiar functional objects, such as bottles and teapots, but they are purely sculptural forms.  This artist aims to stimulate the viewer through each piece's movement, color, fluidity and grace.

Scott grew up on Sunset Beach island, and much of his inspiration comes from his close proximity to the sea.  His past series of work was was abstracted from elements of coastal life, such as birds and insects.  His current work is a series of pieces intended to beautify a space with striking colors, lines and stature.  A subconscious inspiration from nature is still seen in this work, in a skillful reflection on natural forms and organic curves.  Summerfield's distinctive style is further enhanced by his innovative approach to the medium.

Gallery owner Ginny Lassiter says, "I don't want you to think I'm being biased (although he is my son!), but I am in awe of Scott's talent.  He has truly grown as a glass artist and his skill has been honored by such institutions as the Tennessee State Museum, where his work is part of a permanent collection.  He has been accepted into prestigious juried art shows and galleries nationwide.  His talent has been recognized with awards from associations such as Lake Norman Art League (NC), and Toe River Arts Council (NC).  Most recently, he was awarded Best in Show at the Winter Park Art Festival in Florida.  Scott has been creative since childhood, and I am truly proud to be able to represent his work in the local community."
