Forge Your Own Rings at June 13 Creative After Hours

If you’ve ever had the yen to “do it yourself,” the next Creative After Hours event at local art gallery Sunset River Marketplace might be just the ticket. On June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., the gallery will host a class with artisan jewelry designer Beth Wicker, owner Ginny Lassiter has announced. As with all the Creative After Hours events, no experience is necessary, just enthusiasm. In fact, you’re invited to bring your favorite wine (or other beverage) and unwind while creating assorted styles of rings.

Wicker, who is an award-winning artist, will lead the group through forging rings of copper and brass with a variety of hammers and texturing tools.

Beth Wicker has been creating art all her life. Her passions for color, texture and pattern have permeated her work in textiles, metals and paint. She graduated from Meridith College in N.C. with a BA in Art and has an MFA from USC. She has spent additional time stying art in Mich. and at Penland School of Arts and Crafts in N.C. She is a juried member of the Artisans of the S.C. Cotton Trail and is a member of the N.C. Society of Goldsmiths.

Sunset River Marketplace will supply all materials, tools, and instruction, as well as a full spread of snacks for the evening. Fee is $35 per person, and includes the first ring created. There will be a nominal fee for additional pieces.

This event is part of the gallery’s month-long ten-year anniversary celebration, which includes daily free drawings for original art, limited edition prints, pottery, gift certificates and more. Enter your name each time you visit the gallery (once per day) from now until the end of June.

Sunset River Marketplace is located at 10283 Beach Drive SW in the historic town of Calabash, N.C. For more information, visit the website at www.sunsetrivermarketplace.com. To reserve a spot at this Creative After Hours, call the gallery at 910-575-5999 or send an email.
