Ginny Lassiter, creative design consultant and owner of Sunset River Marketplace, the 10,000 squre-foot art gallery in Calabash, N.C., will give a gallery talk on Wednesday, May 23 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon in conjunction with the gallery’s current show, Feed Your Eclectic Soul.

For the exhibition, Lassiter and designer Beth Pethtal of Sunset Beach, N.C. created a series of design vignettes that included antiques, seating, pillows, art and other pieces. Lassiter calls it “a showing of custom design ideas, fine crafts and gently loved pieces from the past.” During the presentation, she plans to demonstrate how to create a successful eclectic environment in the home using a mix of family mementos, antiques, artwork and off-the-shelf items.

“I’m very sentimental,” Ginny laughs, “So I tend to collect and cherish all sorts of pieces ... a piece of driftwood from my husband, an old folk art painting from a trip to the mountains, my son’s exquisite hand-blown art glass. The challenge is to make our treasures ‘fit’ well together.

“If you’re not careful, eclectic can turn into cluttered, and we don’t want that. We’re looking for warm and friendly ... and real.

During the gallery talk, Lassiter and Pethtal will show how changing artwork and fabrics in a space can give it a completely different look and mood.

There is no charge for the gallery talk and no reservations are required. Sunset River Marketplace will celebrate its ten-year anniversary on June 1 with a month-long series of artist demonstrations, daily drawings for free giveaways and gift certificates and other events.
