Inspired by beauty in the landscape, I seek to capture a bold but quiet impression of everyday nature — as the colors of sky, earth and water converge on the horizon.
After graduating from North Carolina State’s College of Design, I worked as a graphic designer for more than twenty five years. Now a lifelong desire to be a painter, a multi-faceted design education, ongoing self-instruction and workshops combine to fuel my art endeavors, dreams and ambitions.
The coastal and rural landscapes of southeastern North Carolina, near my hometown Tabor City, inspire many of my paintings. I am fortunate to paint in our small waterway condo at Sunset Beach and also in our home in Cary, NC, near Raleigh, where I’ve spent most of my adult life. My subjects are both new and familiar places — open fields, lakes, marshlands, the beach and ocean, plus vistas from my travels. I paint usually from my own photography on a linen canvas in oils.
My paintings strive to be simple, serene and soothing, not too complicated. Learning, evolving, experimenting, expressing — to me, that's what it means to be an artist.
